"Painting from life is a pursuit unlike any other painting technique.
It challenges artists to concentrate every sensory nerve on the information
in front them. They absorb it all, from sight to sound, from temperature
to atmosphere, and then channel those feelings from head to hand, re-creating
the vision in paints on paper or canvas." -The Plein Air Painters Of America |

| Born in San Francisco, Rod began pursuing his artistic interests at a young age encouraged by his mother, Eloise Edwards, an outstanding portrait painter. At the Scottsdale Artist School he studied with noted artists David A Leffel and Ray Vanella learning the techniques that would form his work. After living in the San Fernando Valley, he moved north to a small town called Newhall. Once there he found himself drawn to the landscape. "The more I painted the landscape, the more I loved it". He says " I first look for the abstract shapes and patterns and then the light and dark areas. The Santa Clarita Valley with it's oak trees, canyons and hills make for ideal settings." Rod can usually be found rushing to capture the first or last light of the day which he calls the "golden time". He is inspired by the early California impressionists as well as his contemporaries, such as landscape artists Kevin Macpherson and Clyde Aspevig. Today the award winning artist's work is represented locally by B&R Fine Art Gallery in Canyon Country and the Wendt Gallery in Laguna Beach. CA. Education & Workshops:
